Headed to International Competition
All-women Edmonton Barbershop Chorus Heading to the United States to compete on the international stage
Edmonton – For the first time in 75 years Gateway Chorus, an Edmonton-based Barbershop Chorus, has received a wildcard invitation to compete internationally in Louisville Kentucky in October 2020.
"Gateway Chorus is comprised of more than 60 women of all ages who have worked very hard to make it to international competition and represent Edmonton as a wildcard contestant for the first time in our almost 60-year history,” said Lisa Greenough, Director of Gateway Chorus.
This year Gateway scored at a level high enough at the regional competition in Surrey B.C. to qualify for the wildcard spot for the first time in Gateway’s history.
Gateway will recruit new members until Jan. 31, 2020 to sing with them at internationals and is seeking donations to help them travel to Kentucky.
Gateway chorus is a safe space for all women to sing, laugh and enjoy the magic of music.
“While the chorus’ musical accomplishments are indeed wonderful, my personal pride comes in the community we have built. A safe space for all women, from all walks of life, to join together over music. It truly is a beautiful thing. For me, this aspect of our chorus makes every performance with Gateway feel like it is on the international stage.”
Gateway rehearses every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Orange Hub in west Edmonton.

Gateway was established as a chapter of Sweet Adelines International in 1961. A competitive performance chorus, we've had successes at both the regional and international level.
